When I started shooting boudoir in 2011 I had no idea how much a boudoir experience would impact the women I worked with. I thought I would help them give their partners a unique gift and that would be the end of the story. I could not have been more wrong! Jacque shared with me how her boudoir session not only changed how she saw herself, it literally changed the direction of her life and I am so happy she is allowing me to share it with other women.
A love letter to Lydene:
At the age of 25, I nervously drove 3 hours to see Lydene Robertson for a Boudoir Portrait Session as a gift for my husband on our 1st wedding anniversary. I was excited, but skeptical that my photos could look like those on her website.
The moment I walked into her studio, she welcomed me with a joyful smile and fun music. Lydene and the glam artist pampered me and hyped me up while we finalized my outfits and I started feeling more at ease.
From the very first photo, Lydene posed me from head to toe and guided me through every single movement. A few photos in, she showed me the back of the camera…THAT WAS ME?!? HOT DAMN! I had never seen myself from that perspective. My body relaxed and I started really getting into the flow. We talked and laughed throughout the whole session.
I left Lydene’s studio that day walking a little differently. I felt taller. I felt a little more connected to myself. I felt powerful. I recorded a video of myself before going into this session, just a cute little message to give to my husband with the photos later. I also recorded a video of myself right after the session and, girl, it was like watching 2 different women. I was so confident in the video afterwards. What was so striking was not how much my mood and personality had changed, but that they were both just different perspectives of ME. I could be multiple things at the same time? We are quick to hear a label about ourselves, but forget that more than one of them can be true!
I had no idea that I would be the real beneficiary of this experience and that those portraits we created in 2015 would become such a turning point in my life. These photos inspired me to share this feeling with other women in my life. I’ve since become a Boudoir Photographer myself, but my life changed in so many other ways, too.
A Boudoir Portrait Session is not going to solve all of your insecurities. It will not magically take away your daily stressors. It WILL unlock something inside of you. It WILL empower you to think about yourself differently. It WILL increase your confidence. It WILL instill a sense of ownership in your choices. It WILL focus some of your love back to yourself.
To anyone who is reading this, don’t wait to claim this experience for yourself. Don’t wait until your body is in some future state. You are Beautiful NOW!
I’m grateful to you Lydene for creating this special experience for me 9 years ago and empowering so many other women that you will never even know.
xoxo,
