Cake smash sessions are always fun but this one was a little extra special for me. Urijah is my youngest and was born at 26 weeks, an extreme preemie, weighing in at just 2 lbs. After a difficult pregnancy, we were in for a very long NICU stay, terrified with every complication that would arise, not knowing what the future would hold. While that difficult time is behind us, it makes us want to celebrate every milestone just a little bit bigger.
In true Urijah form, everything was on his terms. He wasn’t very interested in tasting the cake, only playing in it. One thing his birth helped me learn was acceptance…being able to accept that no matter how prepared you are, no matter if you do everything right, things don’t always happen the way you expect and that’s okay. That’s actually part of the fun of smash cake sessions, you never know what you will get but one thing is for certain, you will capture some great memories.
